Long Weekend Getaway

Sometimes it’s nice just to get out of town for a few hours. This long weekend, my partner and I decided to do just that. It was a beautiful weekend so we figured, why not enjoy the weather and visit a nearby town for the day.

We got up early enough, ate a quick breakfast and hit the road. We decided to visit Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario for a little Canadian History and change in scenery. Fort Henry is a Canadian Historical site that was constructed during the war of 1812 to protect what would eventually become Canada from a possible American attack during the war. In the 1830s it was replaced by a much larger fort to protect the naval dockyard and the Southern entrance to the Rideau Canal.

It is now a tourist attraction where you can watch old military drills, demonstrations and visit exhibits.

After our tour of Fort Henry, we made our way into the downtown core for a late lunch and enjoyed to views. We stopped for some gelato before we head back home for the evening. Overall a great way to spend a day outside of our normal routine and city.
