3 Tips for a Successful Morning Routine

If you are anything like me, weekday mornings can be a bit of a hustle. Trying to start the day off on the right foot can be a struggle at the best of times, but here are 3 tips to try and start the day off right so your week goes a little smoother.

Commit to the Alarm

You’re in a deep sleep, having the best dream ever when suddenly, you are rudely awoken by an annoying buzz, or ring, or chime, abruptly ending a peaceful night’s sleep. The urge to hit the snooze button is strong. Listen, we’ve all been there, but is that extra nine minutes of sleep really worth the agony of rushing through your morning? There’s nothing worse than starting the day feeling frazzled and out of sorts because you haven’t had the time you need to properly prepare for your day.

The best way to avoid the chaos of a rushed morning is to stick to the plan you had already set for yourself. You set your alarm for a reason. And trust me, this one is challenging for me too, but the benefits of being able to complete my entire morning routine stress-free far outweighs the extra time in bed.

Eat Breakfast

It can be really easy to grab a banana on your way out the door and call it breakfast, but one of my favourite (and super beneficial) ways to start the day is by actually sitting down and having a bite to eat. It can be as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal, or as complicated as making yourself a full breakfast of bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns, but actually taking the time to enjoy a (hopefully) balanced meal first thing in the morning is the perfect way to ease into your day. I love sitting down with my breakfast and a good podcast before I head out the door to get to work. It feels like it sets the tone for the day.

Find a Routine That Works and Stick To It

We all have busy lives and lifestyles, but routine is one of those things that adds stability. Find something that works for you and stick to it. For example, my mornings currently look a little like this:

6:00 am – Wake up, shower, do make up and hair

7:00 am – Unload the dishwasher from last nights dishes, pack lunch

7:15 am – Eat Breakfast, brush teeth

7:30 am – Take out dog

7:45 am – Leave for work

Is it a little hectic? Sure, sometimes. I also find that if I wake up later, I am rushing or having to omit parts of my routine, so this works for my timeline. Sometimes a task takes a little longer (like when I need to wash my hair, for example), and that’s ok. I’ve budgeted my time to work for all morning situations. Less stress = a much happier me.

What are some of your morning routine tips and tricks? Are there things that you do in the morning to help your week become more joyful?
